The first meeting of LOWCF was November 6, 1994, at the Hyatt Hotel. There were many services held where the only attendees were the pastor and his family. But they were faithful in prayer, and in the teaching of the word – and the church grew.
The Light of the World radio broadcast was launched in early 1995 with the practical application of biblical principles as a goal. The broadcast is now in eight cities including Baytown, Conroe, Tyler, Killeen, Beaumont, Austin, San Antonio and Mobile, Alabama - and the church grew.
One of our first projects was to establish an adult Bible study and activities for children of the Phoenix North Apartment complex in Greenspoint. Assistance for those children included sponsoring health fairs, distribution of clothing and food. Pastor Jerry and Jackie spent many Saturday afternoons going door to door in the Greenspoint area witnessing, sharing their faith and praying for the residences – and the church grew.
In 1996, Pastor Martin discovered 20 acres for sale in the Humble area. He challenged us to stretch our faith and believe God to purchase it without going into debt. After three years of God testing and building our faith, and with much prayer and the working of miracles, we purchased 27-acres debt free! We “Possessed the Land” with a great celebration and our faith - and the church grew.
As part of our strategy to reach our community in 1999, we began a mentoring program with the Northbelt Elementary School to impact the lives of children for the next generation.
We continue to partner with the local school district, the local chambers of commerce, and city officials to make a difference.
We have witnessed the spiritual growth and development of our membership. We are excited about the plans for our future, as we “gather people into God’s kingdom and represent Christ in the world.”
